Summary
This is a PvE, co-op, dungeon-crawling card game, inspired by D&D and Munchkin. Players take the roles of bounty hunters, seeking their fortunes by hunting down the most dangerous targets in the world. The adventure progresses by drawing cards from the Fate deck, which presents challenges the players must face, including combat encounters. Successes are rewarded with loot, drawn from the Fortune deck. These help the players grow in power and grant new abilities. Players must use these, as well as the innate capabilities of their hunters, to survive their journey and take down the powerful bounty target. Should they fail, their death is permanent, and the party must continue without. Play continues until all bounty targets are defeated, or until all the hunters have died.
My Contribution
I came up with the original concept as an independent project, writing many of the rules before it became a group project. I continued to refine the rules and developed new mechanics while my teammates helped write the cards and fleshed out the design. This required that I work with playtesters to fix issues in the system, balance the game, and make it overall more fun.
Moving Forward
I had a lot of fun with this project and feel it could move forward. The core mechanics were a success, and primarily would require some balancing to fix the difficulty scaling over the course of play. Otherwise, the game just needs more content to be fit to ship. The system could also be extended to make expansion packs or alternate themes for the adventures, switching from fantasy to space marines or pirates. I feel like it could catch on as a sort of D&D Lite, but it would take some focused effort to make it fit for shelves.
